VEHICLE SAFETY QUESTIONS TELL ME

1 Question, tell me how you would check the tyres to ensure that they have sufficient tread depth and that there general condition is safe to use on the road.
Answer, there should be no cuts or bulges on the sides of the tyres and there should be a minimum of 1.6mm of tread depth across the central ¾ s of the tyre and all around the entire outer circumference.

2 Question, tell me how you would check that the brake lights are working on this car.
 Answer, press the brakes peddle and use reflections in windows or garage doors ect, or ask someone to help, should be checked weekly.

3 Question, open the bonnet and tell me how you would check the oil level on this vehicle.
Answer , identify the dip stick and explain that you would take it out , wipe it , put it back in remove it again and that the oil level should be in-between the minimum and maximum .

4 Question, open the bonnet and identify the windscreen washer reservoir and explain how you would check the level.
Answer, open the bonnet point to the washer reservoir and explain how you would check.

5 Question, open the bonnet and explain where and how you would check the engine coolant.
Answer, open the bonnet, point to the radiator header tank and explain that when the engine is cold it should be in-between min and max.

6 Question, open the bonnet and identify where the brake and clutch fluid reservoir is and explain how you would check that there is sufficient fluid in it.
Answer, open the bonnet point to the brake and clutch fluid reservoir and explain the fluid level should be in-between the min and max level.

7 Question, tell me how you would check that the brakes are working before you start a journey.
Answer the brakes should be tested as you set off and should not feel spongy are slack, the vehicle should not pull to one side. They should also be tested after going through water.

8 Question, tell me where you would find the information for the recommended tyre pressures for this vehicle and how you should check the tyre pressures.
Answer, the information is in the manufactures guide and also on the inside of the door panel, you should use a reliable pressure gauge and check and adjust the tyre when they are cold .Don’t forget to check the spare and to refit the dust caps.

9 Question , tell me how you make sure the head restraint is correctly adjusted so that it provides the best protection in the event of a crash.
Answer, the uppermost ridged part of the head restraint should be at least level with the eye or ears and as close to the back of the head as is comfortable if it is adjustable.

10 Question, tell me how you would know if there was a problem with your antilock braking system.
Answer, a warning light on the dashboard would show if there was a problem.

1 Question, show me how you would check the parking brake (hand brake) for excessive wear.
Answer, demonstrate by pressing the foot brake , release the hand brake, and reapply the hand brake till it is secure and explain that it is secure and that not at end of its working travel.

2 Question, show me how you would check that the headlights and tail lights are working on this vehicle.
Answer, switch on the ignition then turn on head lights then walk around the vehicle checking lights at the front and back, don’t walk into the road, stay on kerb side.

3 Question, show me how you would check that the indicators are working.
Answer, switch on the hazard lights and walk around the vehicle checking lights at front, side and rear. If requested do each side individually using indicators. If asked what you would do if they were not working explain that you would use hand signals.

4 Question, show me how you would check that the horn is working.
Answer, Identify where the horn is and explain that you would press it, only do so if asked to do so.

5 Question, show me or explain how you would check that the power steering is working before starting a journey.
Answer explain that you would apply gentle pressure with your left hand on the steering wheel and that when you turn the engine on that it should be easier to move. If the steering became heavy while driving it may not be working properly.

6 Question, show me how you would clean the windscreen using the windscreen washers and wipers.
Answer, switch on the ignition and press the button in on the end of the wiper arm, pull the arm towards you to wash the rear window.

Answer set all of the relevant controls including fan, heater and air direction to clear the front windscreen and press the demister switch for the rear window.

Answer, switch on ignition, turn on mail lights and pull the light switch out to switch on the fog lights. Warning lights will show on dash board when they are switched on, only use them when visibility has reduced to 100 yards or less.

Answer ,switch on the ignition, switch on head lights then pull the indicator stalk towards you There should be a blue warning light on the dash board ,to turn them off again pull the indicator stalk towards you .
